JORGE LUIS FONSECA Jorge Fonseca's build up to Tokyo 2020 has been anything but straightforward. After losing movement of his right arm in a road accident back in 2006, Fonseca went on to discover para triathlon. Missing out on Rio 2016 with no PTS3 category race scheduled, he moved his focus to 2020. Then at the end of 2019, an accident at home saw him damage the arm further. As soon as he heard the news that Tokyo 2020 would be postponed, he made the decision to have the arm amputated at the shoulder. Adapting quickly to the impact across all three disciplines, he finally returned to the World Para Cup circuit in June with bronze in A Coruna and received a bipartite place on the Tokyo start list.
