GIOVANNI ACHENZA After an accident at work left him with a spinal cord injury, Italy's Giovanni Achenza took up para-cycling before being lured to the challenge of para triathlon, scooping a first national title in 2013. International success soon followed, including gold in Buffalo, USA, in 2015. The bronze medallist at Rio 2016 as the sport made its Paralympic debut, the 50-year-old has been a regular on the podium at both Para Series and Cup level since, as well as a European Championship gold in 2019.
