Defending champion Yuko Takahashi (JPN) led the field of 21 women onto the pontoon for the start of the women's Asian Games competition, and then led the entire 1.5km lake swim with China's Xinyu Lin and Yifan Yang, Hong Kong's Bailee Brown, Japan's Yuka Sato and Korea's Ji Yeon Kim in the chase. Takahashi had a remarkable 40 seconds over the field at the end of the swim and was the first athlete through transition and onto the 40km bike course. Even the addition of Yuka Sato to the chase pack couldn't prevent Takahashi extending that lead, out to over a minute by the time she hit T2 and headed out on the run. Lin managed to pull away from Yang and clear into second, but it was Japan's star Takahashi who kept her cool in the heat of Hangzhou to ensure the gold, Xinyu Lin and Yifan Yang with silver and bronze to the delight of the crowds. 30 Sep 2023 Asian Games - Elite Women 198 contents
