20 Aug 2023 Mixed Relay Test Event PARIS It was an almighty finale to the four-day Paris Test Event action as Laura Lindemann and Mixed Relay World Champions Germany brought home a stunning gold. The format had to be switched to duathlon after discrepancies in the water quality tests in the Seine, Dorian Coninx looking to put France in early control until the closing stages of the first leg, when Miguel Hidalgo burst past to tag Djenyfer Arnold first and get Brazil back underway with a useful lead. Beaugrand was followed by Jolien Vermeylen after Belgium's late-addition duathlon specialist Arnaud Mengal left the Hammers well placed, France with a 12s lead over Germany's Lisa Tertsch by the end of that run and the handover, Jelle Geens and Jonas Schomburg giving chase as Kate Waugh passed GB duties to Alex Yee 27 seconds back. Vasco Vilaca tried to haul Portugal back in the mix over the third leg but it was Bergere still handing an 8-second lead to Emma Lombardi for the final leg, Claire Michel and Belgium giving chase while 30 seconds back were HUN, GBR, POR ad GER. Just like Lombardi ahead, Michel had to ride solo for 2 bike laps while Lindemann and Potter drew closer. At the bell it was 15 seconds to the Belgian and Lombardi was feeling the heat and the chasers were within five seconds after the first of two run laps. Over the closing kilometre, Potter and Lindemann passed Lombardi and suddenly it was a shootout for the gold between Germany and Britain. Shoulder-to-shoulder at the blue carpet, it was Lindemann with the sprint to pull clear for gold, Potter and GB with the silver, Michel able to pass Lombardi late and seal a brilliant Belgian bronze.
