13 May 2023 Elite Men Wilde ride to the title in Yokohama Hayden Wilde bounced back from flat tyre misfortune in Abu Dhabi to secure his first win of 2023 with a quite brilliant run off the bike. It had been a good start in the water for the Kiwi, too, emerging just 13 seconds off the likes of Matt Hauser, the tight swim meaning a huge train of athletes tackling the 40km bike in difficult conditions. Blummenfelt and Geens worked hard to join them, but it was Bergere and Wilde racked and running out of T2 ahead of the hoards. The defending champion dropped back as he began to cramp, leaving Wilde to fly home solo, Australia's Hauser steamrolling his way into silver after edging a sprint finish with Vilaca, followed over the line by Coninx and Bergere. "I wanted to come out here and give it someā€¦ but I know in two weeks I've got Cagliari against Alex (Yee) so I just wanted to ease off a bit." Hayden Wilde 13 contents
