There was plenty of drama as the men took to the Skeikampen hills before the 2021 winner Hans Christian Tungesvik took control over the last cross-country ski segment to ensure a second world title in the snow. A full repetition of the run-bike-ski course meant four transitions to negotiate, and it was Franco Pesavento and Norway's Endre Wigaard making an early breakaway that suddenly saw a trailing group of six including Tungesvik, Giuseppe Lamastra and Alessandro Saravelle 20 seconds back. By the halfway point of the race, Tungesvik was out onto the second run with a 35-second lead over Pesavento and Czech Marek Rauchfuss. A brave fightback from Rauchfuss on the final bike segment saw him scything through the snow to carve out a useful lead just as he had in the first round of racing, but there was no answer to Tungesvik's talent on two skis as he powered on to gold, Rauchfuss with silver, last year's champion Franco Pesavento with the bronze. 25 Mar 2023 Winter Triathlon - Elite Men 183 contents
