Norwegian dominance at the European Games in Krakow began with Solveig Lovseth seizing the women's European Games 2023 championship. Lovseth, 23, showcased a masterful performance on the flat 40km course, securing the gold medal with a formidable 10km run. The race began with 48 women from 24 nations battling it out at Nowa Huta Lake. Sophie Alden (GBR) and Mathilde Gaultier (FRA) initiated a breakaway pace in the swim, building a significant lead. The dynamic duo maintained their advantage into the bike segment but were eventually absorbed by a powerful chase group. In a team move, Norwegian athletes Lotte Miller and Solveig Lovseth attempted to break away but were thwarted and it was after the second transition that Tjasa Vrtacic (SLO) take the lead into the run, joined by Lovseth, Nora Gmur (SUI) and Alissa Koenig (SUI). Lovseth's final surge in the last kilometre secured the title, with Julia Hauser (AUT) claiming silver and Jolien Vermeylen (BEL) securing the bronze. Selina Klamt (GER) sprinted to fourth place, rounding off a thrilling day of intense competition. 27 Jun 2023 European Games - Elite Women 190 contents
