Japan's Kenji Nener surged to victory with an unstoppable performance in Hangzhou to become 2023 Asian Games champion ahead of Makoto Odakura (JPN) and Ayan Beisenbayev (KAZ) in third. Steamy conditions consumed the Chun'an Jieshou Sports Centre and it was Nener, Beisenbayev and Odakura leading the field through the second and final lap of the 1.5km lake swim. It was Japan's number one fastest out of T1 and suddenly with a small gap over the chasers that he was able to fully exploit. Nine athletes were together early in the chase group, including Hong Kong's Jason Ng Tai Long Hardcastle, Temirov, Odakura and Kim, but the deficit was growing wider and quickly - up to two- and-a-half minutes by the end of the 40km. With no challengers in sight, a gruelling and hilly 10km in the heat was the last element to be checked off, and Nener did so in style, easing to the tape ahead of his teammate who had pulled clear of Beisenbayev. 29 Sep 2023 Asian Games - Elite Men 196 contents
