24 Jun 2023 Elite Men Hauser cracks the code in Montreal It was a career-first WTCS win for Matt Hauser as the Australian pulled out a golden run in Montreal. He stretched the field from the first strokes of the swim, only Kenji Nener and Jamie Riddle able to hold the pace before the long run into transition. By the time they were into their saddles a huge group had formed, and stayed that way for four laps until the Blummenfelt-powered chasers joined them ahead of the 5km run to the medals. Roberto Sanchez was out of T2 first but soon hunted down by the likes of Jelle Geens and Tim Hellwig, then with 1km to go, Hauser dropped the hammer. Only Manoel Messias able to stay the pace but unable to pass, the Brazilian taking silver, Geens with bronze, Hellwig and Blummenfelt just milliseconds behind. "It's instinct, you've just got to act in the moment. I knew the other guys were just settling into a rhythm and you can't let that happen. I knew the sooner I went, the better."
