It was pure adrenalin at the Europe Triathlon Championships Madrid at the start of June, the race shifting to a duathlon format due to issues with water quality and home favourite David Castro and Luxembourg's Jeanne Lehair adapting brilliantly to secure the titles. It was a fascinating battle that unfolded over the closing stages as the Spaniard reeled in the three-time Olympic medalist Jonathan Brownlee (GBR), overcoming a 31-second deficit off the bike to ultimately clinch victory by just four seconds, Switzerland's Adrien Briffod claiming the bronze. The women's race saw Luxembourg's Jeanne Lehair emerge as the new European Champion after a powerful finish took her clear of Germany's Lisa Tertsch, who settled for silver. A large lead pack had held together over the first run and bike, before Lehair and Tertsch blew the field apart over the final 10km run, Switzerland's young gun Cathia Schar running her way to a career-best bronze on a turbo-charged day of continental chapionship racing in the Spanish capital. 4 Jun Aug 2023 Madrid, Spain - Elite Men 215 Men Full Results Women Full Results contents
