It was all to play for heading into the Arena Games Finals London, where two sessions of qualifiers had boiled the 30 names starting Friday's heats down to just 10 men lining up for the three-stage finale at London Aquatics Centre. After a rollercoaster first two stages, Nicolo Strada found himself out first in the pursuit, Henri Schoeman close behind, Kyle Smith and Gustav Iden straight on the gas. An immense effort on the final bike hauled the long distance specialists back into the hunt, but once in the water for the last time it was Strada and Schoeman all the way, the Italian scooping an excellent gold but silver was enough to grant Schoeman the 2023 Arena Games title, Smith with bronze. In the women's race, it was Australia's Sophie Linn who took the title in a dramatic race that saw Beth Potter and Cassandre Beaugrand locked into battle too.
