15 Jul 2023 Elite Men Tactical masterclass wins a Wilde day in Hamburg Hayden Wilde secured a second WTCS gold of the year thanks to a final-transition masterclass in Hamburg. Thirty men started the three-stage Finals but, once only ten remained, it was looking like the in-form Matt Hauser's day as he owned the swims. Wilde toiled in stage one but came out of the water right with the leaders and hung tough even as Kristian Blummenfelt tried to blow his rivals legs with a rapid bike segment. Wilde moved to the front with two bends to go then suddenly had precious seconds over the pack, a gap he extended with a fluid transition and held onto for the duration of the run, Vasco Vilaca edging out Alex Yee for silver ahead of Blummenfelt and Hauser. "My tactic was always to try and get a couple of seconds swinging round into transition and get away. It was a bit of a gamble… then it was just keep pushing and keep pushing and got the win."
