Coninx leaves it late for title triumph Alex Yee and Hayden Wilde hit Pontevedra ranked one and two and the men in form, Vasco Vilaca third with Leo Bergere and Dorian Coninx lying fourth and fifth. What was to come had never been seen before, however, as first a dropped swim cap by Wilde cost him a 15-second penalty but gained him second-pack positioning while Yee languished in a third pack dropping further out of contention with every lap. Bergere was last to be dropped, on the run and suddenly it was Coninx tasting victory. As he, Pierre Le Corre and Tim Hellwig entered the stadium and hit the blue carpet, a desperate final surge proved enough to see Coninx win the gold and take the world title in the most dramatic of finales, Hellwig and Le Corre completing a breathless podium. 23 Sep 2023 Elite Men "I thought it was impossible.
