In a dramatic finish to the two-day 2023 Tiszaujvaros World Cup, hometown hero Csongor Lehmann delivered what he and the fans had dreamed of, a first World Cup gold on a course he knows so well. In a tight and physical swim, Max Stapley and Mark Devay vied for the lead, setting the pace for a dynamic race and forming part of a 20-deep bike pack, including Lehmann, Darr Smith and Jannik Schauffler. That group pulled 40 seconds clear of the chasers by the time the bikes were racked. Lehmann was right alongside Sergio Baxter Cabrera, the two engaged in a captivating cat-and-mouse game throughout the 5km run before the Hungarian strategically picked his moment, finally breaking clear and securing gold as he hit the blue carpet to the cheers of the crowd. Baxter claimed a commendable silver after injury woes, while the Hungary-Spain showdown continued for bronze, with Alberto Gonzalez Garcia edging out Gabor Faldum. 8-9 Jul 2023 Elite Men 60 contents
