Humidity was high for the inaugural men's sprint-distance World Triathlon Cup Yeongdo, South Korea, where Great Britain's Max Stapley led the 750m ocean swim, pursued by Aiden Longcroft-Harris of Canada. Stapley, Takumi Hojo, Harris, Valentin Wernz and Trent Thorpe were first out of the water and soon pushing the pace on the 4-lap, 20-kilometre bike course. Japan's Jumpei Furuya was working hard in the heat to try and close the gap but the leaders, including Oscar Dart and Kyotaro Yoshikawa, had established a substantial lead of over a minute to the chasers. Out of transition and onto the 5km run, Japan's Takumi Hojo dominated the closing stages, securing his first World Cup victory with an impressive segment. The battle for medals unfolded between Stapley and Wernz, with Stapley sprinting to silver, and Wernz holding on for bronze. 5 Aug 2023 Elite Men 64 contents
