World Triathlon Cup action returned to Chengdu in October, 55 elite men competing in the standard-distance format at the purpose-built Jintang Triathlon Centre, where Germany's Tim Hellwig reigned supreme. Mark Devay led the men's field through the non-wetsuit, 1.5km lake swim, New Zealand's Dylan McCullough in close pursuit. The pair had an 18-second advantage over the rest of the athletes as they left transition, but the likes of Sam Dickinson and Skyle mith were among the men driving the chase group reeling in the leaders and close down the gap. It wasn't long before a massive train of riders formed and would pour into T2 together. Hellwig, Aram PeƱaflor, Rostislav Pevtsov, Bence Bicsak and Smith exchanged the early lead as Schomburg dropped off the back.
