In 2013 it was Russia's Artem Parienko and Brazil's Pamela Oliveira who kept up the tradition with career-first World Cup victories. Oliveira confirmed she is one to watch in the lead in to her home Olym- pic Games in Rio, as she finally capitalised on her already powerful swim and bike. Oliveira led from start to finish under the hot Mexican sun to beat Austria's Lisa Perterer by 38 seconds, her highest ever WC finish. Ukraine's Yuliya Yelistratova bridged up from the chase to the leaders in an impressive bell bike lap which paved the way for her bronze. In the men's race, Russia's Parienko came from behind for his first win. A minute behind the leaders at T2, Parienko pulled even with Argentina's Luciano Tac- cone (ARG) on the second lap, which left only France's Aurelien Raphael to reel in. Parienko then smoked the final two laps for the win, followed closely by Tac- cone. While Raphael faded under the hot conditions, Mexico's own Irving Perez stormed ahead for bronze.
