The Races – The champions
The International Triathlon Union is the world
governing body for the Olympic sport of Tri-
athlon and all related MultiSport disciplines
including Duathlon, Aquathlon, Cross Triath-
lon and Winter Triathlon. It now has over
150 affiliated National Federations. Triathlon
was awarded Olympic Games status in 1994
and made its Olympic debut in Sydney 2000.
Triathlon is also featured in the Asian Games,
Pan American Games and Commonwealth
Games. Paratriathlon was accepted into the
Paralympic Games in 2010 and will make its
Paralympic debut in Rio 2016.
2013 was another year of huge growth for
triathlon. The ITU World Triathlon Series com-
pleted its fifth season, with Great Britain's
Non Stanford and Spain's Javier Gomez
emerging victorious in two of the closest
series finishes ever in London. Participation
continued to grow with over 32,000 age-
groupers taking part in this year's events.

inspirational triathletes in 2013.
