COZUMEL – GETTING READY
FOR THE GRAND FINAL
A PARADISE SETTING
Gearing up to host the 2016 ITU World Triathlon
Series Grand Final, the picturesque city of Cozu-
mel welcomed the elites to race in the sunny para-
dise. Ending his ITU season on a high note, Richard
Murray (RSA) finished off with a gold medal perfor-
mance. The win granted Murray his fourth conse-
cutive ITU podium after taking home the bronze
at the Rio Test Event, WTS Edmonton and at the
WTS Grand Final in Chicago earlier this year. Ear-
ning his first podium of the year, the silver medal
went to Canadian Kyle Jones and following in third
place was Gabor Faldum (HUN). Japanese pocket
rocket Ai Ueda added another Mexican city to her
list of World Cup accolades as she was victorious
in Cozumel. Showcasing an impressive come-from-
behind run to make up time from being in the
chase pack on the bike, Ueda tallied her first ITU
World Cup win of the year. The win also gave her
a second Mexican victory, after earning the gold
medal at the Huatulco World Cup in 2014. Joining
Ueda on the podium was Rachel Klamer (NED) and
Erin Densham (AUS) who sported the silver and
bronze positions.
