TRIATHLON 2015 · WORLD CUP SERIES 172 ALANYA – A WORLD CUP TO CELEBRATE GOING STRONG FOR 25 YEARS Although Alanya hosted an ITU World Cup race for only the second time, the city celebrated 25 years of organising an event in the Turkish city. João Pereira (POR) topped the podium with a classy performance in the elite men's race to claim his first ITU World Cup win ahead of Kristian Blummenfelt (NOR) in second and Kyle Jones (CAN) in third. A large peloton, which contained Blummenfelt, Pereira and Jones, worked together to bridge up halfway through the six-lap 40km bike course. Then Pereira punched up his speed a notch on the final run lap, sailing to the win in 1:45:10. Yuliya Yelistratova (UKR) stayed consistent during the entire race, claiming her second World Cup victory comfortably ahead of Summer Cook (USA) and Miriam Casillas Garcia (ESP). While an overwhel- ming majority of the field hit the run together, one of the first women to hit T2 in the long line of athle- tes was Yelistratova, who blasted out of transition and took a lead on the run that she would never relinquish.
