LEGACY MAKING HISTORY. The Edmonton
Triathlon Academy was founded in 2010
with the legacy funding from 1999-2007 ITU
event hosting, and is now a premier training
ground for local athletes under the tutelage
of Scottish international triathlete and
internationally trained coach, Kevin Clark.
2014 ITU LEGACY TRUST. The planned legacy
fund from successfully hosting the 2014 ITU
Grand Final now sits in a registered trust that
provides funding to:
• Continued event hosting
• National and Local Performance
Training Centres
• Athletes and Coaches
• Sport Science and Innovation
WORLD TRIATHLON SERIES. Following the
incredible success of the 2014 ITU Grand
Final, the City of Edmonton and the LOC
undertook a 5-year agreement to host World
Triathlon Series (WTS) events with guaranteed
municipal funding of $1.2M annually.
2017 ITU SCIENCE & TRIATHLON
CONFERENCE. In 2017, Edmonton will host
the 4th ITU Science and Triathlon World
Conference – for the first time in North
America. Plans are long underway with a local
scientific committee working with University
partners and ITU to deliver a leading edge
Science and Triathlon conference from
December 5 to 8, 2017.
HOSTING CAPACITY. The past 20 years of
triathlon hosting has resulted in hundreds of
committed volunteers, making the recruitment
process of 1,500 volunteers for a Grand Final
event very manageable and efficient. In
addition to those volunteers, there is a strong
group of professionally trained staff to ensure
the history and legacy of top class ITU hosting
is maintained.
