Command
In preparation for the 2014 Grand Final, the LOC worked with the City to create the safest and
best coverage from the command center. All members of the City Civic Events Implementation
Team including- police, traffic, transit, fire rescue, emergency response, corporate
communications and the civic events liaison and leadership staff were present in the Command
Centre during the entire event. A new standard was set for Command for the City for all events
moving forward. City is committed to providing full command staff. Along with ITU and LOC
members, the command center is prepared onsite to deal with any eventuality.
2. MEDICAL PLAN
The medical plan for this event is aimed to manage medical conditions that could occur during
the ITU Triathlon race.
Medical Personnel
The medical team will consist of emergency physicians, emergency nurses and physical
therapists in the main facility tent, two on-site ambulances, and paramedics, nurses and
physicians on alternative transport to provide initial on-course assessments and triage.
Ambulance and golf cart location will vary depending on the particular race and the location of
the racers on the course.
Due to Canadian laws, all medical procedures and assessments will be restricted to Alberta
licensed physicians. Foreign medical personnel will be invited to translate for their athletes
and provide emotional support while all medical care at the time of the race will be the
responsibility of the medical team.
Medical Centre Equipment
All standard equipment for a full ACLS/ATLS response will be provided by Alberta Health
Services (AHS) Emergency Medical Services (EMS) paramedics, with additional support by
tertiary care Emergency Department physicians and nurses. If needed for a mass casualty
incident (MCI), extra ambulance resources from the AHS will be able to respond to escalating
medical situations. Please refer to AHS policies for a complete list of equipment carried by AHS
ambulances as well as their standard MCI protocols.
