8. Excellent transport facilities International transport The Swiss public transport systems enjoy an excellent reputation throughout the world. They stand out for their nationwide coverage, their diversity, their safety and their effects on the preservation of the environment and energy resources. The Lake Geneva area and the Lausanne agglomeration are no exception to this. The Trans- ports publics de la région lausannoise SA (TL), the largest local transport company, will act as organiser and main manager of the transport system during this event. Through close collaboration between the TL, other local or regional transport companies and the Vaud Canton Police, the organisation of public transport during the Grand Final will be smooth, sure and efficient. Centralised control of the entire system will be managed by the TL, which has already per- formed this service successfully many times before (the two latest occasions in Lausan- ne being the European Figure Skating Championships in 2002 and World Gymnaestrada in 2011). - A single port of entry into Switzerland, Geneva, only 60 km from the Lausanne, with a direct train link between the airport and Lausanne - A transport concept in Lausanne with emphasis on public transport (metro, tram and bus) - A central system in Lausanne (metros) - Lausanne, the "Green City" and its vast network of cycle paths, which will be enhanced during the Games A welcome / information desk will be set up in the airport's arrival hall and will enable athle- tes to rapidly find and access any information they need. The Organising Committee will also arrange, for the International Triathlon Federation, VIP, Elite athletes and their staff, a coach service to take them directly from the airport to their accommodation. Lausanne's railway station will also be a major entry point for athletes from Europe. Located at the centre of Lausanne, the station has direct links to most public transport services, which will enable athletes to rapidly and easily reach their accommodation. Finally, participants who choose to come to Lausanne by road (coach or car) will be able to use car parks located on the outskirts of the city and will then make their way to their ac- commodation by public transport. Public transport Lausanne's public transport network is capable of carrying several tens of thousands of additional visitors every day and serves the entire region and its population of 300'000. Twenty-five bus routes and three metro lines serve Lausanne's eleven suburbs, and eight others link Lausanne to the rest of the region. More than 72 million commuters use the pub- lic transport network every year. In Lausanne, services run every five to seven minutes at peak periods. The "Transports publics de la région lausannoise SA (TL)", the largest local transport com- pany, will act as main manager of the transport system during this event. In addition, people wishing to travel to the city centre will be able to use the automatic m2 metro line connec- ting the station to the city centre in less than 3 minutes. 46 – ITU Triathlon Grand Final
