126 WORLD TRIATHLON 2017 I WORLD TRIATHLON SERIES It was another great season for the Aussies, and the Juniors were no exception. Matthew Hauser's 12 months of preparation paid off with a second World Title gold medal to add to his collection, after the Australian team secured gold in the Mixed Team Relays earlier this season. Hauser was quick to take the lead from the beginning and he was the first out of the water and onto the bike section. Hauser dominated the race to scoop up gold with a cool 28 second lead with Vasco Vilaca (POR) coming in behind to take a silver medal and Ben Dijkstra (GB) for the bronze. In an even closer women's junior race, it was Japan's Fuka Sega who took off strongest in the swim and quickly created a large advantage. Taylor Knibb (USA) pressed and the two athletes overtook each other several times before Knibb was able to assume the lead and become the one to catch. The American pushed home that unassailable advantage to secure gold 16 seconds ahead of Kate Waugh (GB), with Sega taking third position on the podium. RESULTS WOMEN – TOP 3 1. Taylor Knibb (USA) 2. Kate Waugh (GBR) 3. Fuka Sega (JAP) MEN – TOP 3 1. Matthew Hauser (AUS) 2. Vasco Vilaca (POR) 3. Ben Dijkstra (GBR) JUNIORS THE JUNIORS FIGHT IT OUT IN ROTTERDAM
