110 WORLD TRIATHLON 2017 I WORLD TRIATHLON SERIES In what looked like a near-perfect race dynamic that suited her strengths, Flora Duffy (BER) dominated the 2017 ITU World Triathlon Rotterdam to take first place and retain her ITU World Championship title for the second year in a row. Duffy's Grand Final gold ended a season that saw her win no fewer than six WTS races in 2017. Duffy said of her win: "I was pretty reluctant to ever say you can have a perfect race, but I would say it went just how I wanted it to. I had a great swim and set myself up perfectly for the bike. I tried to play it safe on the bike because there was so much on the line and then on the run I felt strong, so I wanted to go for it. Yeah, it was a great day." Coming home in second place was USA's Katie Zaferes, a result that saw her move into a career-best third in the overall rankings, while the bronze medal went to Jessica Learmonth (GBR), the second WTS medal of her career. One of strongest finishes of the day came from Australia's Ashleigh Gentle, as she overcame a three-minute deficit on the run to finish sixth, the exact position needed for her to maintain second-place on the world championship podium.
