After all the rain and cold weather, the last day of Grand
Final week saw the sun come out for the Age Group
World Championships.
Nearly 4,000 people competed, with over 2,000 battling
it out on the standard distance course, and 1,600
getting stuck into the shorter sprint course.
In total, 78 nations were represented across the week,
including a team under the ITU flag. Leading with the
most athletes was the 770-strong Great Britain team.
The United States had the second-highest number of
athletes with 594, followed by the home nation of The
Netherlands with 405, Mexico with 331 and Canada
313.
The oldest man racing in Rotterdam was Bill Ziering
of the USA, born in January 1930 and clocking up an
impressive 87 years old. The oldest woman competing
in the 80-84 sprint race category, was Mary Anstey of
Great Britain, born in January 1936.
On the opposite end of the scale, the youngest triathlete
was 15 year-old Annabelle Waterworth of New Zealand,
entered in 16-19 Female AG Sprint and born in
December 2001.
Among the athletes competing in Rotterdam we had 50
named David, 37 Michaels, 34 Peters and 32 Pauls. The
most popular female name was Sarah with 17 signed up,
followed by 15 Michelles and 14 Annes. They all shined in
the streets of Rotterdam.
