JorGensen edGes ahead in BattLe
For 2013 titLe
The USA's Gwen Jorgensen proved she has much
more in her arsenal than a killer final kick as she
delivered her most complete performance to date
at the World Triathlon Series event in Stockholm.
While Jorgensen's run form was never in doubt, it
was a surprise top-10 swim that set the tone for her
most dominant victory in 2013, adding to titles in
San Diego and Yokohama. Jorgensen reeled in And-
rea Hewitt and Vanessa Raw, who had broken away
on the cobblestoned bike leg of Gamla Stan, before
striding away in style to take victory from Non Stan-
ford by a whopping 49 seconds.
"I think I was just so shocked that I was in the front
of the group, I was thrilled with my swim coming out
of the water there," Jorgensen said. "To see the
hard work starting to pay off just feels really good."
Jorgensen's win meant she moved up from third to
first in the overall rankings, but Stanford's silver and
Anne Haug's bronze in Stockholm set-up one of the
closest finals in WTS history. A mere 13 points
separated those top three women ahead of London.
