A dominant all-round performance lifted the USA's
Tamara Gorman her first ITU Junior Women's World
Championship in tough conditions in London.
Gorman claimed bronze in similar wet and cold con-
ditions in Auckland last year and in Hyde Park, went
two better, leading out of the water and on the bike
before pulling away with the fastest run of the day
to claim her first world title. While Gorman powered
away from T2, the race for medals behind her was
far from over. While Australia's Jaz Hedgeland and
Germany's Laura Lindemann started out strongly
in second from transition, it was Great Britain's
Georgia Taylor-Brown flew in the final stages. Taylor-
Brown thrilled the home crowd as she moved up
from sixth spot at the end of lap two to second
within the final kilometre to claim silver. Lindemann
just edged out Hedgeland for the bronze.
In the junior men's world title race, it was France's
Dorian Coninx who saluted. Although the 2013 Euro-
pean Champion was in the lead group all day in an
impressive all-round performance, it wasn't until the
final finishing straight that he could finally make sure
of the win, just holding off Great Britain's Marc Aus-
tin and Grant Sheldon in a three-way battle for the
elusive crown. In an incredible performance, all three
of the medallists ran sub 15-minute five kilometre
run splits.
