In the women's event, Canada shone as Amelie Kretz, Ellen Pennock and Kirsten Sweetland swept the podium at home. Kretz and Pennock went to work early, getting a quick advantage off the 750m swim and Sweetland joined them in group of 10 that worked to extend a minute lead on the field at the end of the bike. The eventual medallists then shone, the Canuck trio putting 14 seconds into the field in the first lap and not looking back. France's Gregory Rouault continued a successful few years of World Cup racing for French men, when he held off home favourite Kyle Jones and the Ukraine's Ivan Iva- nov in a frenetic final 5km run leg. After a tense bike segment, where several men crashed on the techni- cal course, a group of 22 emerged from T2 ready to challenge. At first it was Ivanov who took the lead, but in the final few turns Rouault put the hammer down and rocketed home to his first major title.
