TriaThlon 2013 · san dieGo 34 TriaThlon 2013 · san dieGo 34 ThE ChaMPion rETUrnS a BroWnLee BacK Where he BeLonGs It had been a long break for Great Britain's Alistair Brownlee after his London 2012 Olympic triumph and the two-time World Champion admitted to fee- ling the nerves ahead of his date with triathlon's bir- thplace, particularly with a limited six weeks run trai- ning under his belt. However the most successful man in WTS history needn't have worried. Brownlee found his extra gear on the first lap of the run and stormed home to claim the win by 22 seconds from South Africa's Richard Murray. It was Murray's second consecutive WTS medal in San Diego. Portugal's Joao Silva clai- med bronze, which was enough to move into the overall WTS rankings lead after two races. But the day belonged to Brownlee, who led from start to finish to win his 13th World Triathlon Series race in style. "I think I was holding it in a bit before the race because I was a bit nervous but as soon as I actually started racing it was very much the kind of thought 'this is where I belong' you know," Alistair said after- wards. "I really genuinely enjoyed it."
