Stimpson was riding high after her gutsy London performance and continued that form in Alicante, riding with the lead group in the bike before leaving the rest of the field in the dust come the run. Italy's Alice Betto added ano- ther highlight to her best season yet with clear silver, while the Netherlands Rachel Klamer ran strongly into bronze. In the men's race, it was Switzerland's Sven Riederer who finally added some gold to his otherwise bursting ITU medal cabinet. As an Olympic bronze medallist and multiple WTS podium finisher, Riederer was one of the most successful ITU athle- tes to have not recorded a major win. But he finally sealed an elusive World Cup title with a superb all- round performance in Spain, edging out Spain's own Vicente Hernandez and Great Britain's Grant Sheldon in one of the closest World Cup finishes all year.
