The World Games, first held in 1981, are a major international multi- sport event held every four years for sports that are not contested in the Olympic Games. In a perfectly timed break on the bike, Belgium's Rob Woestenborghs returned to the winner's list in the men's event. The win for Woestenborghs was his first world title since 2008 and marked his return to the World Championship podium for the first time in three years. Defending champion Emilio Martin (ESP) took silver, while France's Benoit Nicolas scored bronze with a speedy final run. While in the women's race, Japan's Ai Ueda made a winning debut as she stormed to her first Duathlon world title at her debut world championships. Ueda partnered with France's Sandra Levenez throughout the bike leg and together the pair extended their lead to almost three minutes as they started the run. But Ueda proved too strong there for Levenez and she was forced to settle for silver – her fifth Duathlon world championship medal. Germany's Jenny Schulz returned to the podium in third place with a time of 2:01:04.
