JorGensen does it aGain
The USA's Gwen Jorgensen went from first-time win-
ner to the main contender for the 2013 season with
her simply sublime win in Yokohama.
Conditions played a part in the race with constant
rain and cool temperatures making the tight and
technical bike course even trickier and the lead pack
was twice splintered by crashes, but Jorgensen
again reigned supreme. After being part of a chase
group that caught an early bike breakaway of Mariko
Adachi, Jodie Stimpson and Emma Moffatt, Jorgen-
sen held back and waited until almost halfway
through the 10km run to fire.
While Moffatt, Stimpson and Vendula Frintova had
initially led from the second transition, they could
do nothing to stop Jorgensen flying past in yet ano-
ther negative split 10km run leg. She eventually coll-
ected her second consecutive WTS win by a margin
of 14 seconds, and took the overall series lead.
Moffatt claimed silver, her second consecutive
podium for the year, while Stimpson collected her
career first WTS medal with bronze, marking yet
another British woman to watch in 2013.
