anne hauG BacK on top at home
A thrilled Anne Haug kept her world title campaign on
track and gave the crowd what they had been hoping
for as she claimed the Hamburg title in a super sprint,
the first German winner of the event since 2009.
While Haug started the season on a roll, she hadn't
recorded a victory since Auckland. Needing a podium
place to stay on top of the overall rankings, Haug
made of the most of the raucous home support at
the world's biggest triathlon to record her second
series title in 2013.
She pulled out her trademark bike split to cancel out a
40-second deficit from the swim and entered T2 with
the leaders. On the final run lap, it was down to Haug,
Stanford and Stimpson, before a late charge by And-
rea Hewitt and Ashleigh Gentle suddenly turned it into
a five-woman race. But with 800 metres to go Haug
decided to kick, it proved enough to hold off the
chasers and claim her second WTS win in 2013.
Behind her Stanford and Stimpson just edged out
the trans-tasman pair to add yet more medals to
their 2013 season tallies and keep themselves in
line for a title shot.
