TRIATHLON 2015
SPIRIT OF CHAMPIONS
The International Triathlon Union is the world governing body for the Olympic sport of Triathlon
and all related MultiSport disciplines including Duathlon, Aquathlon, Cross Triathlon and Winter
Triathlon. ITU was founded in 1989 at the first ITU Congress in Avignon, France. It maintains its
headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland and also has offices in Vancouver, Canada and Madrid,
Spain. It now has more than 160 affiliated National Federations on five continents.
In its seventh year, the 2015 ITU World Triathlon Series grew to a ten-race circuit. For the
first time ever, a WTS race was held in the Middle East with a race in Abu Dhabi, United Arab
Emirates. Gold Coast, Queensland also returned to the WTS Series for the first time since
2009. This season, the Series culminated in Chicago where the USA's own Gwen Jorgensen
impressed on home soil when she capped off an undefeated season to be named the women's
World Champion for the second consecutive year. Also at the Grand Final, Spain's Javier Gomez
cemented his name as one of the most remarkable triathletes to ever hit the sport when he
became the first athlete to win five ITU World Championship titles.
This picture book beautifully recaps not only the World Triathlon Series, but also illustrates
World Paratriathlon Events, World Cups, ITU Multisport World Championships and this year's
Major Games.
