HISTORY // 16
With encouragement and support from Triathlon Canada and the City of Edmonton, the
LOC returned to the World Cup circuit in 2011 with a 5-year hosting commitment. However,
in 2012 ITU invited Edmonton to bid for the 2014 ITU World Triathlon Grand Final - an
opportunity the City of Edmonton and the LOC fully embraced and welcomed. Once again,
the result was an outstanding success as it was awarded "2014 International Event of the
Year" at the 2015 Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance Prestige Awards.
None of this would have been possible without the visionary and undying support of
Edmonton Events, a partnership between the City of Edmonton and Edmonton Tourism.
Edmonton Events was named 'Canadian Sport Tourism Organization of the Year' at the
2016 Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance Prestige Awards. Edmonton was also voted the top
Canadian sport host city and ranked 7th sport host city in the world by Around the Rings
and TSE Consulting in 2015.
Together with Edmonton Events, the LOC is focused on delivering top class events that
contribute to community pride and well-being. The LOC is known as a leader in the field of
event innovation and creating legacies that benefit the sport, athletes and future hosting.
