WINTER TRIATHLON RETURNS TO
AUSTRIA FOR WORLD CHAMPS
RUSSIA DOMINATES IN THE RUN, BIKE, SKI RACE
The top winter triathletes from all over the world joined
together in Zeltweg, Austria for the 2016 ITU Winter
Triathlon World Championships. Battling for the chance
to be the best to race on foot, bike and skis, elites world
titles were up for grabs over a 6km run, 12km mountain
bike and 9.6km ski course.
In yet another close battle, it was again Pavel Andreev
(RUS) who clinched the win in the men's race, earning
him his fifth consecutive winter triathlon. Andreev won
after a close national battle with Evgeny Kirillov (RUS)
throughout the whole race. Rounding off the podium was
Italian Guiseppe Lamastra, who stood on his first World
Championship podium as an elite.
In the women's race, Yuliya Surikova (RUS) captured
the title and became the winter queen for the first time
