147 TRIATHLON WORLD CUP RACES I WORLD TRIATHLON 2017
Yucatan made its debut on the World Cup circuit in
2017, where the host nation's Irving Perez became the
first-ever champion of the 2017 Yucatan ITU Triathlon
World Cup. A blazing performance on the run earned
Perez the victory, cheered on by the ebullient crowds as
he was joined on the podium by teammate Cesar Saracho
securing a first medal finish. Germany's Maximilian
Schwetz earned the bronze in his first World Cup race of
the year.
In the women's race, USA's Summer Cook earned her
first title of the year, battling from start to finish and
never leaving the leaderboard. Taking the silver medal was
USA's Lindsey Jerdonek, a newcomer to the world cup
podium, with bronze going to Lisa Perterer (AUT), who
was again able to find success in the Mexican heat.
