159 TRIATHLON WORLD CUP RACES I WORLD TRIATHLON 2017
In the penultimate World Cup race of the 2017 season,
Mexico's Crisanto Grajales rounded off his year with
aplomb with an impressive gold in Salinas. Putting his
speed to the test in the final sprint distance race on the
circuit, Grajales' win saw him top the podium for the first
time since 2012. Finishing in second place for the first
time in his career was France's Felix Duchamp, who ran
Grajales very close on the run course and the bronze then
went to Brazil's Manoel Messias, another athlete to make
it onto the World Cup podium for the first time.
With the cheers of the home crowd ringing in her ears,
Ecuador's own Elizabeth Bravo also claimed her first-
career World Cup victory in Salinas, a first for an athlete
from the country. Bravo was in dominant form in the run,
and was followed across the line by the USA's Tamara
Gorman and another Brazilian success, Luisa Baptista,
earned the bronze. Both women were awarded World
Cup medals for the first time in their careers, making the
entire podium something of a milestone event.
