Triathlon Mixed Relay is racing at its most thrilling, an innovative format com- prised of two men and two women. Each athlete completes a 'super-sprint' triathlon, before tagging their next teammate. This year Great Britain started as hot favourites to claim another world title, particularly given each member of all-star team had been on the individual podium the day before. But the race changed drama- tically on the third leg when an unlucky Non Stanford crashed out. It was Germany who took full advantage as the team of Anja Knapp, Anne Haug, Jan Frodeno and Franz Loeschke triumphed in the fifth edition of the event. In an epic final leg, New Zealand's Ryan Sissons worked with Loeschke on the bike to reel in the USA's Cameron Dye, who was in the lead largely thanks to a sensational third leg from Gwen Jorgensen. They caught him on the run and Loeschke then made his move. Sissons put New Zealand in the silver medal position, while the USA team claimed bronze. "We had an amazing day with lots of ups and downs. You only get that in a team relay," German team anchor Loeschke said.
