AMERICAN AGE GROUPERS DOMINATES AT HOME
The streets of the Windy City were decorated in
racing bibs as nearly 4,000 age group athletes from
64 National Federations traveled to Chicago to
partake in the 2015 ITU Age Group Triathlon World
Championships. Competing in both the sprint and
standard distance, age group athletes from all over
the world earned the right to represent their coun-
try in the pinnacle race of the triathlon season.
Age group triathletes are the heart and soul of the
week-long championship program. Athletes had
worked all year long for the chance to compete
against the best of the best in their age category
and fight for the chance of being crowned World
Champion. Competitors ranged in ages—the youn-
gest contestant being 15-year-olds Hannah Bates
(GBR) and Daniel Whitburn (NZL), while the oldest
was 90 year old Robert Mckeague (USA).
With the largest representation of athletes that
saw 1082 competitors race in Chicago, host coun-
try USA topped the medal tally with 106 gold, silver
and bronze medals collected throughout the week.
Australia finished second with 22 medals, followed
by Great Britain with 21.
