TRIATHLON 2015 · WORLD CUP SERIES 162
NEW PLYMOUTH – SPEED IN
THE SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE
MURRAY & DONNER MAKE A MOVE
New Plymouth has always produced an exciting
race venue and this year was no different. South
Africa's Richard Murray perfectly executed his
performance to win gold in a race that was at
full throttle from the gun. Not even a 10-second
transition penalty could impede his win. After a
two-year hiatus from the podium Alexander
Bryukhankov (RUS) appeared in form for silver.
Also putting forth an impressive effort, Kristian
Blummenfelt (NOR) claimed bronze in a close finish.
USA showcased its strength in the Kiwi city as
Kaitlin Donner and Renee Tomlin claimed the gold
and silver in the elite women's race, earning Donner
her first World Cup title. Cold and rainy conditions
made the course difficult, but a consistent large
pack, which included Donner, formed early and
remained together for the majority of the race.
Donner earned her crown in the final lap of the run
after breaking away from Tomlin in the final stretch.
The last podium position went to Ventula Frintova
(CZE) who stayed strong in the home stretch.
