TISZAUJVAROS – BRINGING
THE HEAT TO HUNGARY
NEW WINNERS TOP TISZY
As one of the longest running World Cup host
cities on the ITU calendar, Tiszaujvaros has now
held an event for 19 years. For the fourth year,
Tiszy offered a tough semifinals and finals format.
The men's race saw Russian Igor Polyanskiy clench
his first ever World Cup title. Making it to the final
race after winning his semi-final heat, the Russian
kept calm and collective during the entire race
despite constant attacks to claim the top podium
position in a thrilling final race. In front of his home
crowd, Gabor Faldum (HUN) took second place and
Andreas Schilling (DEN) grabbed the last spot on
the podium. Having emerged from the swim a
minute down in the sprint race, Australian Felicity
Sheedy-Ryan slowly progressed to reach the top
podium position in a perfectly-timed race. Young
Audrey Merle of France took the silver medal just
seconds after Sheedy-Ryan and Sara Dossena
(ITA) scored bronze, both making the podium in
a World Cup race for the first time.
