189 WORLD CUP SERIES ยท TRIATHLON 2015 2015 TORONTO PAN AMERICAN GAMES NEW FLAGS RAISED IN CANADA The Canadian city of Toronto played host to the XVII Pan American Games. Winning the triathlon title meant also earning the national federation a qualifying spot in the Olympics, so every athlete was out to claim the crown. The women's race saw a fresh podium as Chile, Mexico and Bermuda were all represented on the Pan American podium for the first time. Barbara Riveros (CHI) pushed ahead on the run to secure a solid breakaway that would carry her right to the finish line for her first Pan American gold medal. Mexico's Paola Diaz and Bermuda's Flora Duffy joined her on the podium to take home the silver and gold. Mexico dominated the podium in the men's race. Crisanto Grajales earned the country an Olympic qualification spot after his breakthrough performance and victory in Toronto. Leaving it all down to a sprint finish, Grajales moved past five competitors in order to claim his first Pan Am title in the final kilometre. Crossing the line at 1:48:58, the Mexican claimed gold, while the USA's Kevin McDowell finished with silver and Grajales' compatriot Irving Perez took bronze.
