TRIATHLON 2015 ยท ABU DHABI 8 PICKING RIGHT BACK UP JORGENSEN BACK ON TOP IN SERIES Abu Dhabi joined the World Triathlon Series in 2015, bringing the WTS to the Middle East for the first time as the United Arab Emirates city kicked off the season. Gwen Jorgensen started the year right where she left off, proving that she once again was the woman to beat with a stunning performance. Despite trailing the leaders by a minute after the bike, the No. 1 ranked woman cut 45 seconds off of that deficit in the first run lap, which led to the win. "I was shocked by how fast I ran," Jorgensen said straight after the race. "I've had some good run sessions but I didn't know I was running that well. You can't give up until the finish line, that's something I've learned." Behind her, fellow compatriot Katie Zaferes, enjoyed a break through that would set the tone of the season. Previously a multiple World Cup winner, Zaferes had struggled to transfer success that to WTS races, until she scored silver in Abu Dhabi. The bronze went to Bermuda's Flora Duffy, who recorded her first WTS medal with the podium finish.
