AVILES AWESOME AT
ITU DUATHLON WORLD
CHAMPIONSHIPS
MURRAY & PALLANT PROVE VICTORIOUS
The world's best duathletes astonished the crowds on
the streets of Aviles when medieval town in the
northern coast of Spain hosted the 2016 ITU
Duathlon World Championships.
With crowds spilling into the streets following a full day of
races, the Elite Men's race saw an enormous comeback
by South African Richard Murray only seven weeks after
enduring surgery for a broken collarbone. Spaniard Emilio
Ruiz took silver, while young Dutchman Jorik Van Egdom
finished third, also claiming the title of the U23 category.
As for the women's race, young British star Emma
Pallant dominated the field from the very beginning and
ended up claiming victory. South African Andrea Steyn
maintained her second-place position during the last lap.
The crowds went wild with local athlete, Margarita García
Cañellas, fighting to be on the podium for bronze.
