WORLD TRIATHLON
PODCAST
As it became clear that racing would be put on
hold for much of the year, World Triathlon used
the opportunity to catch up with athletes around
the world and share their stories from lockdown
and beyond through a series of regular podcasts.
Soon-to-be World Champion Georgia Taylor-
Brown (GBR), World Triathlon Team members
Edda Hannesdottir (ISL) and Ognjen Stojanovich
and Canadian Tyler Mislawchuk (CAN) were
among the first to tell their stories, Stojanovich
speaking from the hotel room in Mauritius
where he was stranded for 10 weeks after
racing the African Cup as lockdown bit both
there and in Serbia.
For Tyler Mislawchuk, two weeks of quarantine
in his parents' basement was an unusual start
to life back in the family home and he gave us
some fascinating insights into the mental battles
of training with no events on the horizon and
facing the news of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic
Games postponement.
Other guests throughout the year have included
legends like Nicola Spirig (SUI), revealing how she
managed to gain the vital edge over Sweden's
Lisa Norden in their infamous London 2012 sprint
finish and a frank discussion with Erin Baker
looking back over the American star's time at the
top of triathlon.
Scotland's Marc Austen and New Zealand's Ryan
Sissons took us through their very different
reasons for retirement this year, Vasco Vilaça
(POR) and Maya Kingma (NED) reflected on some
of the breakout performances of WTS Hamburg
and the Karlovy Vary World Cup and Australia's
Lauren Steadman was disarmingly open about the
accident that cost her the use of her legs.
