PREFACE Dear Triathlon Family, Welcome to another lookback over another memorable year in triathlon and our first under our new branding as World Triathlon. This has, of course, been a year unlike any other, but while our events schedules, global development programmes and Olympic and Paralympic moments have all been affected by the global pandemic, we still have a great deal of positivity to reflect upon. The rebrand was developed to underline our mission to represent the entire multisport community, from the first-time triathlete to the Olympic champion, and to include everything we stand for; innovation, ambition, collaboration and equality. We have never been an organisation that likes to stand still, and the new look will help us appeal even more to the new landscape of young athletes, future partners and innovative sponsors as the world governing body of the sport. Of course, the disappointment of a postponed Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games was felt by everybody involved in sport. But as that decision became inevitable, it was how we collectively responded to the news that defined our year. Thanks to the incredible patience, cooperation and hard work of the World Triathlon Executive Board and staff, our Local Organising Committees and National Federations, the events we have been able to stage since August left us with incredible blue carpet moments and great optimism for 2021 including a celebratory Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2021. My gratitude extends to those events that were able to be rescheduled as well as those that were not. The global landscape was constantly shifting and evolving, but the appetite for putting on races never dropped. Rearranged dates came and went but those that were able to take place could call on a vital set of guidelines produced by World Triathlon to help event organisers ensure that everyone was as prepared as possible to meet the challenges we faced. Thanks to that spirit of collaboration and commitment, we were able to crown 2020 World Triathlon Champions and Mixed Relay World Champions in Hamburg, on a secure course outside of the city centre. Three World Cups were held in Karlovy Vary, Arzachena and Valencia to follow on from Mooloolaba in March, each LOC seizing the chance to welcome the biggest names in the sport and putting on superb events on incredible courses. The Alhandra Para Triathlon World Cup likewise brought a host of world champions to compete in Portugal, seven months after the WPS Devonport in February. My admiration goes to all the athletes and teams involved in those races and, just as importantly, for the patience shown by those who were unable to participate. Our 2020 World Champions 3 contents
