DEVELOPING THE FUTURE During a pandemic-struck year, the World Triathlon Development team took the opportunity to make a valuable shift to operating in a virtual model. At the heart of the new approach were the introduction of the World Triathlon Development Webinars (in English and Spanish) and Physiology of Triathlon course online, engaging closely with National Federations and hosting Coaching Education to accredited coaches all over the world. Across 2020, 76 World Triathlon development projects were successfully delivered successfully, including 15 on-site development courses and camps. Despite the many challenges of the pandemic, opportunities also emerged and online education courses and resources were accessible to more people than ever. The number of World Triathlon Education Hub users doubled to 2,446 in 2020, including individuals and member National Federations. World Triathlon Development, together with the World Triathlon Womens' Committee, announced the launch of a re-envisaged World Triathlon Mentor Programme, delivered virtually, with the goal to increase and sustain the number of women and people with disability in leadership roles in coaching, technical officiating and governance in the sport. The first six-week World Triathlon Mentoring Programme course saw coaches and technical officials from all over the world connecting once again after all regular camps and courses had the pause button pressed on them in March. The programme operates across the five Continental Confederations, preparing a group of trained volunteer mentors to support individuals who have shown real potential to be the sport's next generation of leaders.
