ATHLETES' BIOS - MEN RSA RICHARD MURRAY One of the great characters on the men's circuit for over a decade, South Africa's Richard Murray is a born competitor. A first Series gold came in Hamburg back in 2012 but it wasn't until 2018 he scooped a first Olympic- distance gold at WTS Leeds. The kind of athlete who you can never write off, 2021 started badly with news of a heart condition and the need for surgery, hampering his Tokyo 2020 preparations but incredibly not derailing them altogether as he hopes to go even better than his brilliant 4th place finish at Rio 2016.
